Dana Gould has worn many comedy hats in his career. He wrote and performed on The Ben Stiller Show, did a one-off appearance as Newt Gingrich on Mad TV, and was co-executive producer of The Simpsons for seven seasons. A native of Boston, Gould now calls California home. He and his wife live in a house once owned by actor Roddy McDowell, star of Gould's all-time favorite movie franchise and TV series: Planet of the Apes. They came upon the house by accident. Upon hearing who the former owner was, Gould's wife knew they were standing in their new home. "We can't," he told his wife. "No one will believe this was a coincidence! People will think I'm really nuts." To this day, Gould still comes up with new observations about the film. "[Charlton Heston] is talking to Nova about the female astronaut that died when they crashed," says Gould before quoting the actor's next lines. "'She was going to be the new Eve, with our hot and eager help, of course.'" To which Gould wonders, "Did she know about this? I'll bet she didn't know a damned thing about 'Operation: New Eve.'" Another interesting nugget: The famous Planet of the Apes musical, as seen on The Simpsons, was done before Gould arrived on the long-running animated series. However, it was his idea. "I actually wrote Planet of the Apes: The Musical for The Ben Stiller Show," he explains. When the show was canceled, the idea went to The Simpsons with Gould's blessing. It's not all '60s/'70s science fiction and talking apes for Gould, though. He has two new TV series in the works, and is preparing to record a new album and TV special. "This show is called I Know It's Wrong, and it deals with doing things you know are wrong, but you just can't help it. Human nature," he explains. "I'm really looking forward to coming to Acme." 18+.
