Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.
Although they hail from the Motor City and have impishly appropriated a famous NASCAR name, Daniel Zott and Josh Epstein — the duo behind Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. — have no need for speed. Instead their sunny electro-folk-pop tends to be languid, wistful, and in no hurry to stop luxuriating in glistening melodies and sparkling arrangements, including on their current, second album, The Speed of Things. Amid electronics, which bubble, squeak, and sigh with endearing playfulness over infectious dance beats, Zott and Epstein dig up an array of vintage pop artifacts ranging from Beach Boys baubles and Brit invasion inlays to folk revival ricochets, always taking the most complicated and scenic route to the finish line. Chad Valley, a.k.a. England's Hugo Manuel, will open with his electro-R&B-pop hybrid. 18+. (Photo by Frank Maddocks)
