Cranksgiving Mpls 2013

Now in its fifth year, Cranksgiving Mpls welcomes folks to take to their bikes for a fun day fighting hunger. The event began as a benefit put together by bike messengers in NYC. Nowadays, it's a nationwide happening, and over 100 riders took to the streets in Minneapolis for the event last year. This year, folks will once again meet at Gold Medal Park to pick up a suggested itinerary and wish list, then ride on to various local grocers to shop for food-shelf items. Cyclists will want to attach a trailer to their bike (or bring a hefty bag). All stops along the way are optional, and folks can give as little or as much as they are able. Past years have yielded donated items ranging in cost from $10 to $100, with foodstuffs including canned goods, veggies, and even a few frozen turkeys. Once the ride concludes, family and friends will be treated to a thank-you party at Sunrise Cyclery. Proceeds from the happening will benefit Sisters Camelot. According to reports, last year they almost completely filled up their infamous bus.
