Constellation: A Backyard Art Expedition

This Memorial Day weekend, folks will be taking to their backyards for barbeque and (hopefully) spring sunshine with friends and family. In the Seward, Powderhorn, and Phillips neighborhoods, creative community members will be stepping up the celebrations with the first annual Constellation: A Backyard Art Expedition. This sprawling, three-day festival is unique for many reasons, the number one being that it will mostly take place in private homes, backyards, porches, and garages. Locations include a backyard at 3310 15th Ave. S. where you'll find paper-making workshops, art vending machines, a swap meet, and a zine apothecary. Over at 2920 13th Ave. S. there will be an ongoing art installation, as well as fine cinema screened on a garage wall. Jim's Roofing at 3218 Bloomington Ave. S. will have a free wall open to graffiti artists (bring your own supplies), plus sidewalk chalk for creative kids. Other events scheduled include home brewing demonstrations (and sampling), poetry readings, art shanties and cars, musical performances, puppet shows, a progressive dinner, and much more. Visit for a list of locations, happenings, and times. (Pictured: The Norae Shanty)
