Common Room: Granta Magazine Celebration Party
It's a pretty safe bet that tonight the Soap Factory's "Common Room" will be filled with people who long for the fifth-grade literature classes of yore, filled with reports on Ramona Quimby books, Number the Stars, and other classic tomes from youth. Magers & Quinn, along with Cambridge University's literary digest Granta, are reviving the book-report experience, if only for one night. In addition, attendees will take part in writing exercises, view slideshows, and take in a lecture about literary hoaxes. Has there ever been a Twin Cities event as likely to make bookworms hot and bothered? Surely not. Special guest Eric Hanson, whose drawings have appeared in pretty much every highbrow magazine (Vanity Fair, The New Yorker, etc.) will be on hand to discuss his work as well. This is definitely a worthwhile event for lovers of the printed word. As LaVar Burton, host of Reading Rainbow would say: "But don't take my word for it." (photo by somegeekintn)
