Comedy Bang! Bang! Live!
Three years ago, Comedy Bang! Bang! debuted as Comedy Death Ray, a radio show/podcast where host and Mr. Show alumnus Scott Aukerman got to have some idle goof-around time with his fellow performers. It didn't take long to evolve into something bigger and crazier, however, and by the time it hit its first show of 2010 — where Patton Oswalt memorably weighed in on the Leno/Conan screwjob and Brett Gelman's excessively graphic sex story "iBrain" led to him being "banned" from the show — it was one of the most fearless and ridiculous comedy podcasts going. The interview-turned-improv format has brought out the best and/or weirdest in some of the most notable names in comedy (Aziz Ansari, Paul F. Tompkins, Sarah Silverman) and elsewhere (it's where a lot of people discovered how funny Mad Men's Jon Hamm could be). With its fitting expansion into the sketch TV format via the new IFC series of the same name, Comedy Bang! Bang! has become its own brand you can trust, and this live touring iteration promises to bring its A-game. Aukerman will be joined by one of the show's favorite stalwarts, the surrealist impressionist James Adomian, who has a gift for out-of-nowhere left-turn absurdity matched by his dead-on imitations. His demented takes on Paul Giamatti, Gary Busey, and Sam Elliott are inspired, but he's bound to take full advantage of the Minneapolis locale to reel off the blustery, conspiratorial brilliance of his Jesse Ventura.
