Collect Call: Exploring Art Patronage
What drives people to collect art? Love? Obsession? Prestige? Passion, definitely. Several local collectors open up in this exhibition by sharing works from their personal stashes, offering viewers insights into their taste, choices, and who they decide to invest in and champion. Many of the works, in fact, have never been publicly exhibited, as they were purchased directly from the artists. Ranging from European lithographs from the late 1800s to works by contemporary regional and national artists, the pieces provide an opportunity to speculate on the often private relationship between artist and patron. For guidance, blog posts on the collectors and why they collect will be published during the show's run. There will be an opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, November 9; and a panel talk at 6 p.m. Thursday, November 14. (Image: Rod Massey, Parked Truck)
Saturdays, Sundays; Thursdays. Starts: Nov. 9. Continues through Nov. 17, 2013
