City Pages' Iron Fork
Thanks to shows like Iron Chef, with its color commentary approaching NFL-levels of gusto, or Hell's Kitchen, where Gordon Ramsey yells insults at cooks as if he were a high school P.E. teacher, professional cooking is increasingly—and bizarrely—being viewed as a sport. Enter the Iron Fork, City Pages' own take on the die-hard, cutthroat world of food preparation. This Thursday, six local chefs will slice, fry, muddle, poach, and/or toast a top-secret ingredient in hopes of supreme food dominance. Not so into watching cooks do their thing competitively? Then enjoy samples from the local restaurants around town that compete daily for your dollar. Over 20 restaurants, including hot spots like Sea Salt, Bellanotte, Dancing Ganesha, and Barbette will be offering hearty samples of their signature dishes. Beer and wine will also be available for tasting in unlimited quantities. Now in its third year, this event gives 100 percent of its proceeds to Second Harvest Heartland, a group that helps feed those in need. 21+.
