Cinco de Mayo

This Saturday, St. Paul's West Side will be packed with Cinco de Mayo festival-goers. The annual celebration kicks off with the Menudo 5K Walk and Family Run at 8 a.m., which raises scholarship funds for Latino students enrolled in law enforcement programs in the Twin Cities. If that hour is a little too early for you, things really get rolling with the official parade. Starting at 10 a.m., floats and performers will march down Cesar Chavez Street from Wabasha to Aida. Afterward, there will be plenty of things to do throughout the day, including kid-friendly activities in the Family Zone, health organizations and services on Community Wellness Lane, athletics to participate in or watch in the Sports Zone, and a marketplace featuring arts, crafts, and other handmade items for sale by folks and businesses in the neighborhood. Traditional music will be played on four different stages, while the always popular low-rider showcase and jalapeño eating contests will return. For more info, visit
