Chuck U: Robozoology
According to Chuck U's website, as a child his dream was to get paid to draw Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics. Knowing this, it seems logical that his latest exhibit, "Robozoology," would feature fantastical animals doing unlikely things, though his current artwork appears to be ninja-free. In "Robozoology," which features new prints and paintings in addition to works from the past three years, bird eyes become submarine telescopes while tree branches sprout televisions, worm mansions travel through blue skies filled with astronauts, and angry monkeys attack a "scientist factory." Yes, U's work is a little trippy. The artist currently resides in Minneapolis, and in the past has worked on projects including CD and DVD covers, collaborations with graffiti artist Erik Inkala, and other illustration projects. You can check out his artwork while enjoying music from local rockers the Idle Hands this Saturday at the opening reception from 6 p.m. to midnight.
