For three decades the Walker has celebrated the Saturday after Thanksgiving with a dance extravaganza—an evening packed with short new works by local movement makers. This year's edition is especially promising, given the provocative and eclectic viewpoint of curator Emily Johnson. What to expect? Ballet, modern dance, clogging, dance theater, percussive, and Indian dance for a start, presented by bold up-and-comers like Mad King Thomas and Anna Maria Shogren; seasoned iconoclasts Olive Bieringa, Susan Scalf, and Dylan Skybrook; ballet experimentalist Sally Rousse; fresh faces Kenna Sarge and Kwewag Waci; and rhythm masters Kaleena Miller and Ricci Milan. They'll be joined by Jaime Carrera, Joanna Furnans, Greater Twin Cities Tableau Society, Cara Krippner, Pam Plagge, and Chris Schlichting for a night filled with stimulating movement, plenty of humor, and an opportunity to give props to our ever-expanding dance community. Reserve early—the shows usually sell out.
