Chicago have pioneered a number of things since their first LP in 1969: commercially friendly jazz-rock, the quadruple-live LP, the Roman-numeral album title, and the notion of popular success almost completely inverse to critical acclaim. But push past all that, grab a Greatest Hits (1983's [i]If You Leave Me Now[/i] collects most of their vintage peak stuff), and you might find yourself surprised at how well their once-derided output has held up.
