Centennial Celebration

Model Ts and lavish Edwardian-era fashions were the signs of the times when, on April 17, 1910, the Saint Paul Hotel first opened its doors. Since then, the historic building, located at Rice Park in downtown St. Paul, has endured as the Twin Cities has grown into a booming metropolitan area. In celebration of the anniversary, the hotel is throwing what could only be described as the party of the century. One hundred years after the first visitors strolled into the lobby, the Saint Paul Hotel's Centennial Celebration will take guests through the past decades into the present, toasting the big 1-0-0 with champagne at midnight. Party-goers will journey through time, enjoying classic cocktails from the roaring '20s, big-band swing music from the '40s, jukebox tunes and diner delights from the '50s, and a disco lounge straight out of the '70s. The highlight of the evening will be a party in the elegant hotel ballroom, complete with a nine-piece variety band, drinks, and dancing in the 100-year shadow of 1910. For those in search of the full turn-of-the-century experience, the hotel will also be hosting a History Tea the next morning. This five-course event will feature hotel memorabilia, as well as a speaker who will discuss the city's rich history. It's sure to be a blast from the past. Call for tickets.
Sat., April 17, 7 p.m.-1 a.m., 2010
