Catch Me If You Can
As yet another Broadway adaptation of a Hollywood film, Catch Me If You Can comes with an intriguing pedigree. Terrance McNally, whose credits range from the books for The Full Monty and Ragtime to the scripts for Master Class and Corpus Christi, wrote the script, while the team behind Hairspray, Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, provide the music. The musical earned a number of Tony and Drama Desk nominations, but ended up with just a short Broadway run last year. The story follows the same path as the 2002 film and Frank Abagnale's autobiography. The young Abagnale became a jet-setting fraudster in the 1960s, relentlessly pursued by FBI agent Carl Hanratty. All of this — there's a girl for Frank, too — is set up for the bouncy, jazzy, 1960s-influenced score. The touring production stars Stephen Anthony as Abagnale and Merritt David Janes as Hanratty.
