Catalyst's 15-Year Anniversary

This Sunday, Emily Johnson and her performance company, Catalyst, will celebrate their 15-year anniversary with a gala preview party and benefit for their next performance installation, "SHORE." It's the third part of a trilogy of works that began with "The Thank- You Bar" in 2009 and continued with "Niicugni" in 2012. Johnson's work interweaves strands of her life as a Yup'ik person from Alaska who now lives and works in Minnesota through dance, music, storytelling, and beautiful objects, like the installation of 51 handmade fish-skin lanterns that graced "Niicugni." "SHORE" premieres in June 2014 as part of Northrop Auditorium's grand re-opening season. In addition to a print, video, and set archive of 15 years of Catalyst performances, this party will include an excerpted live preview performance of "SHORE," a poetry reading by Jay Bad Heart Bull, and live music by several artists who have collaborated with Catalyst, including Rhoda Reighard, JG Everest, the Anonymous Choir, and a rare reunion by instrumental ensemble Lateduster. There will be a curated silent auction with lots of goodies like a gift basket from Birchbark Books, some of those fish-skin lanterns crafted by Johnson, and complimentary beer, wine, and hors d'oeuvres. What better way to usher in a Minnesota autumn?
