Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
An intriguing cast of local favorites, a Tony nominee, and a television performer with ties to the Guthrie will take the stage for the theater's production of Tennessee Williams's Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Leading the company in the Pulitzer Prize-winning piece, for the second time that the Guthrie has tackled the work (the first was in 1976), is Emily Swallow as Margaret. Swallow participated in the Guthrie experience before going on to perform on Broadway and in Hollywood, including roles on Southland, The Good Wife, and Ringer. Peter Christian Hansen plays boozy, haunted Brick. Hansen has performed throughout the Twin Cities, including several turns at the Guthrie, and is also the artistic director of the Gremlin Theatre. As one of Williams's most popular works, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof delves deeply into the minds and souls of the characters, especially of husband and wife Brick and "Maggie the Cat." Their relationship has long been on the rocks, due in part to Brick's constant drinking and his possible love for a college chum. Other concerns and pent-up anger swirl around the plantation home over one long night. Others in the cast include Broadway veteran—and a highlight of Frank Theatre's Cabaret—Melissa Hart, David Anthony Brinkley, Chris Carlson, and Michelle O'Neill. Lisa Peterson directs.
