Caramelpalooza Caramel Festival

If fall had a flavor, it would likely be caramel. Long, dreamy strands of browned butter and sugar would wrap around the colored leaves, apples, and squash to make everything just a little sweeter. This Saturday, guests will celebrate fall at Caramelpalooza. Making caramel might sound like an easy task — mix butter, sugar, and a little salt until it bubbles into a molten, sweet mess — but it's actually dangerous candy making, as there's no kitchen burn worse than a sugar burn. So instead of risking life and blisters, go and enjoy the gooey stuff done by experts. The folks at St. Croix Chocolate Company will be coating everything within sight in tacky, sweet, goodness all day long. While caramel apples are to be expected, and sea-salt caramels are mandatory, there will also be unexpected treats like handmade caramel corn with bacon. In all there will be 15 different kinds of caramel confections, along with free tastings of caramel and fudge sauces. There will also be entertainment courtesy of CaramELVIS, ragtime music from Dan Wascoe, a pumpkin carving demonstration, a performance by magician David Harris, a cookbook swap, and a petting zoo. (You might want to wash your hands before that one, sticky fingers.) Caramelpaloza will go on rain or shine, and parking is free.
