Does watching local experts get sloppy while playing a drinking game sound like a good time? Congratulations: Your dream is a reality, and its name is Buzzedwords. The event's tagline says it all: "A live discussion and game show featuring two interesting people, a bottle of whiskey, and 20 forbidden words." The January edition will bring Andy Sturdevant and Sharon Stiteler onstage to banter with moderator Jeff Kamin of Books & Bars. They will also be answering trivia in the other person's area of expertise. The catch? They are forbidden to utter certain words related to their topics. The audience knows what those words are, but the contestants don't. Their punishment for slipping up is a shot of whiskey, which sounds like a dangerous equation for public hilarity. Stiteler is an internationally recognized birding speaker and author (check out her geeky yet entertaining blog, birdchick.com). Sturdevant is a local artist, author, journalist, and arts administrator whose book of essays and drawings, Potluck Supper with Meeting to Follow, was released past this fall from Coffee House Press. Event founder Art Allen stumbled upon the idea for Buzzedwords while trying to find a medium ground between dry lectures and crowd-sourced events. "We thought it would be fun to humanize these experts a bit by turning their talks into a drinking game," he says. Are the contestants worried? Not Sturdevant. "I can't remember the last time I went onstage without some already in me," he jokes. (Pictured: Andy Sturdevant)
