Bucky Fuller Night
Ah, Bucky Fuller. Architects, designers, futurists, visionaries, hippies, conservationists, systems theorists, and certainly filmmakers just can't get enough of the design pioneer and inventor who was once hailed as one of the greatest minds in American history. For people of a certain age, and those who know their design history, Fuller's Montreal World's Fair Dome and his other geodesic domes are touchstones of a more utopian era — one where science and technology gave us real hope of saving "Spaceship Earth" (Bucky's term). Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Sam Green is a fan. He's teamed with the indie rock band Yo La Tengo to create a "live documentary" on Fuller. As the band provides the soundtrack, Green will give in-person narration of his new film, The Love Song of R. Buckminster Fuller, which traces Fuller's career. As Fuller might have said, it's very synergistic. On Thursday at 7 p.m., Green will lead a talk about Fuller and his film as part of the Walker's free Bucky Fuller Night. Friday evening will feature two film screenings/concerts, with tickets at $25, and performances at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
Thu., Oct. 10, 7 p.m., 2013
