Last month, Bryan Miller was hoping to go to one of the 400 Dave Chappelle shows at First Avenue and Pantages Theatre. Unfortunately, they sold out before he got tickets. Then came the call. "I got the call about an hour before the show, asking me if I'd open for him," he recalls. "Of course I said yes, but once I was in the cab heading over I started thinking that this could turn into a disaster. No matter how long you've done this, there's always that chance you can have a bad show. I just didn't want it to happen at First Avenue in front of Dave Chappelle." Fortunately his set went great, and he was able to perform in front of a whole lot of uncommon comedy fans and one of the biggest comedy icons of our generation. This weekend, you'll be able to see Miller on the slightly smaller stage when he headlines two shows this Saturday night at the Comedy Corner Underground. Miller has become one of the most consistently hilarious standups on the local scene, and over the past year he's performed with a variable who's who of national headliners and a-list comics. Oh, and last year he performed on this little show with this guy named Craig Ferguson. "Nobody seemed to care about that," he laughs. "It was great and helped my credibility, but if you're not any good in the first five minutes you're onstage, no one cares what shows you've been on." Good thing Miller is funny. (He also does proofreading and some writing for City Pages.) Raghav Mehta opens. (Photo by Nick Vlcek)
