Bright Ideas

Having children today entails the intrusion of all manner of unwelcome viewpoints in your life of which you were previously blissfully unaware, and a hearty number of them boil down to the same concept: that somehow, if one is hyper-vigilant, competitive, and downright ruthless, one can catapult one's offspring into some Nirvana of achievement, status, and (don't forget) wealth. Well, good luck with that one. Eric Coble's Bright Ideas is presumably familiar with this syndrome: It's a comedy about a couple striving like hell to place their three-year-old in just the right preschool, surely a life-altering proposition. Urban Samurai Productions has made a mission in recent years of skewering our contemporary mores and preoccupations, and this one looks to be right in their wheelhouse.
