Best of Midwest Burlesk 2012
For the next three days, the Ritz Theater will be hosting a festival dedicated to the art of burlesque. And while many folks performing are indeed from the Midwest, including cities like Bloomington, Chicago, and Minneapolis, there will also be special visits from troupes and stage acts from St. Louis, Seattle, New York City, Denver, and Albuquerque. The lineup will change each evening, with over a dozen acts in each show. Highlights include Perle Noir, New Orleans Burlesque Festival's Queen of Burlesque 2009; the Stage Door Johnnies, who where recently inducted into the Burlesque Hall of Fame; and Lola Van Ella and Sammich the Tramp, heralded as the "Derriere Beyond Compare" and the "Punk Rock Hobo," respectively. Minnesotans will also be able to cheer on talent from their hometown, as Lili's Burlesque Revue will also be taking the stage. In addition to traditional burlesque, shows will also feature performance in styles both modern and vintage, including aerial arts, feather dancing, ballet, tassel twirling, boylesque, and even hula hoop.
