Bedlam Lowertown Grand Opening

At long last, Bedlam Theatre finally gets to celebrate its grand opening since moving to its Lowertown space, which, starting in June, will be open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Here, you'll find food, coffee, and bar service to supplement performance activities. At the grand opening this Saturday, Bedlam will host activities all day long and into the night, so stop by briefly or set up camp. From noon to 2 p.m., Christopher Lutter-Gardella of Puppet Farm Arts will be holding a workshop about how to turn trash into art. This will be followed by a puppet and performance cabaret from 2 to 4 p.m. with Maren Ward, Steve Ackerman, and friends. From 4 to 6 p.m., you can take a tour of the neighborhood led by PlaceBase Productions, or listen to an acoustic set. The official opening with Mayor Chris Coleman is at 6 p.m., and festivities go into the evening as New Native Theater, Four Humors, Dangerous Productions, Hijack, and others inaugurate the new theater at 7 p.m. with emcees Ward and Jon Mac Cole. Finally, Prophets of Peace and the Sex Rays will play sets starting at 9 p.m., followed by a DJ party with KFAI program director Miguel Vargas after midnight.
