CO Exhibitions' latest show, "Beasts 2013," highlights the work of a variety of artists exploring fantastical creatures both real and completely imagined. It's a fitting event for the Halloween season, given that the beings on display range from delightfully whimsical to repulsively nightmarish. The artists — hailing from places like Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and New York — have created pieces in mediums including intaglio, silkscreen and woodcut printmaking, oil painting, and mixed media. Here, you'll find giant turtles swimming through the ocean with islands on their backs, two-headed women feeding a hungry group of Venus flytraps, and a toy that appears to be a mishmash of different doll parts. Whether your reaction is one of curiosity or of disgust, there will be plenty of monsters to examine. There will be an opening reception from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, October 19. (Adam Martin, Aspidochelone)
Mondays-Saturdays. Starts: Oct. 19. Continues through Nov. 15, 2013
