Bear'ly Open Golf Tournament
Although fishing, hockey, and snowmobiling are usually Minnesota's sports of choice on a frozen lake, organizers will make over White Bear Lake for a summertime game this Saturday: golf. For Saturday's third annual Bear'ly Open Golf Tournament, grab your spikes and pretend the "s" on your sand wedge stands for snow. Golfers will get a chance to tune up their iron play and break out their clubs on the lake's vast, snow-covered ice surface. But even better than just improving their short games, they'll be feeding the hungry, too. Players' $30 greens fees (ice fees?) will benefit the White Bear Lake Food Emergency Food Shelf. If you don't know a driver from a putter but still want to get in on the fun, check out the 617 House Band's kick-off concert at the White Bear Country Inn at 8 p.m. Friday night ($8 at the door). Proceeds will benefit the same cause. Visit www.explorewhitebear.org to sign up.
