Ballet of the Dolls: Pas de Quatre
Choreographer Myron Johnson deconstructs, debriefs, and decants four ballets made famous by the Ballet Russe in the early 20th century. You could say that if the Ballet Russe had not existed, Johnson would have had to invent it. His wildly imaginative dance theater contains the same mix of respect for ballet tradition and desire for the new, the subversive, and the deliciously salacious as that legendary company. The exotica of Scheherazade, Cleopatra, The Firebird, and La Dieu Bleu should fit Ballet of the Dolls like a pair of silky Harem pants—with sequins.
Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Wednesdays, Sundays, 7 p.m. Starts: Oct. 15. Continues through Oct. 25, 2009
