Back to School Weekend: Minnesota Twins vs. Texas Rangers
It's time for the kiddies to load up their backpacks, sharpen their pencils, and head back to school for some learning. The Twins, meanwhile, have been getting an education of their own this summer, and the season can't come to an end quickly enough. Let's take a look at what the Twins have learned. First, you just cannot win without some good pitching. It doesn't matter if you have Joe "Hometown Hero" Mauer catching. If your pitchers allow a crapload of runs, you will still lose. Second, it doesn't matter if Justin Morneau leads the league in RBIs; if your pitchers allow a crapload of runs, you will lose. Third, while it's funny that Mauer is the best hitter in baseball and has turned up his power production like nobody thought he would, if your pitchers allow a crapload of runs, you will still lose. Okay, it seems the Twins really only needed to learn one lesson. Let's hope the coming school year goes better for young Twins fans than the summer went for the club. Students age 14 and under attending the Saturday-night game against the white-hot Texas Rangers will receive a Twins three-ring binder, and Sunday afternoon kids get a Mauer and Mike Redmond catcher backpack.
