Aziz Ansari: Dangerously Delicious
Aziz Ansari is in the moment. In the last year the co-star of MTV's short-lived sketch show Human Giant has become, if not a household name, a fixture in dorms and four-bedroom apartments nationwide. The young comic has landed roles in studio films (including I Love You, Man and Funny People, the latter of which spawned his spot-on anti-comedy alter-ego, Randy) as well as a prominent gig on the TV series Parks and Recreation. But his popularity stems as much from new-media outlets and DIY online videos as his Hollywood work. His standup, which is nicely captured on the hour-long special Intiminate Moments for a Sensual Evening, often plays like the director's commentary on Twitter's top trending topics. One of the best bits on the DVD finds Ansari starting a text-and-Facebook flame war between his goofy teenage cousin and Kanye West. Ansari is in a way a trend concerned with trends, the comedic answer to the hyperkinetically evolving hybrid world of emergent technology and social networking—but in this case that's not a bad thing at all. Long live the trend.
