The clever and compelling work of Diogo Lopes and Transatlantic Love Affair has found a home at Illusion Theater's Lights Up! series. The company returns with another revamped Minnesota Fringe Festival hit as Ash Land comes to the stage. The company has produced a string of hits at the festival in recent years, including The Ballad of the Pale Fisherman (an Ivey Award winner), Red Resurrected, and last year's These Old Shoes. For all of these, the company takes on more than just characters. They become the set, using their bodies and voices to bring each location to life. Set during the Dust Bowl, Ash Land re-crafts the Cinderella story into a modern context, producing a thrilling and heartbreaking piece that was the top-selling show (and an artistic highlight) in the 2012 Fringe. Lopes works with the Transatlantic Love Affair troupe to bring the tale to life, aided by composer Harper Zwicky, who will provide slide-guitar accompaniment. This is the third time the company has been part of Lights Up! Both The Ballad of the Pale Fisherman and Red Resurrected were expanded and presented in the last few years.
