Artists in Storefronts 5: Cineteca
For the fifth installment of the Artists in Storefront series, things will be a little different. This go-around, event creator Joan Vorderbruggen will be teaming up with past participant Jaime Carrera to curate "Cineteca," which will feature a variety of short films and animations in underutilized storefronts. During this time, folks who stroll through the Whittier neighborhood will be able to check out short flicks from established and emerging artists on 40-inch flat screens located inside store and restaurant windows. Selected pieces will also be shown continuously on the side of the Joe's Chicken Shack building on 26th Street. The opening reception at Fallout Studio (2601 Second Ave. S., Minneapolis) will include DJ tunes from Venus DeMars, and excerpts from works such as Tom Siler's Film 4M. Carrera's own piece, Felix, which pays tribute to Cuban artist Felix Gonzalez-Torres, will also be featured during the exhibition. The opening reception runs from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, December 21.
