Art in Bloom
Now celebrating its 30th anniversary, Art in Bloom invites floral artists to interpret pieces from the museum's permanent collection through flowers. This year's event will feature over 150 displays scattered throughout the galleries. Over the event's three days, the MIA will be offering tours, demonstrations, box-lunch lectures, workshops, storytelling, and other special presentations on flowers, gardening, and art. Thursday night's free Flowers After Hours party from 5:30 to 9 p.m. boasts a cash bar, musical performances including Pavel Jany and the Talking Strings, and a screening of 6QUEJ5, a digital installation by Jennifer Steinkamp. The earlier in the festival you visit the better: Unlike the museum's collection, flowers aren't permanent, unfortunately. (Image courtesy of the Minneapolis Institute of Arts)
