ARENA Dances: Short Fall

Unlike some dance troupes, the members of ARENA Dances do not want their audience to feel as though their performances are effortless. Choreographer Mathew Janczewski prefers to create pieces that are as athletic and exuberant as the movements are painful. Though performances are abstract, they also strive to be human and relatable, and this is what he believes draws audiences in. Short Fall continues with this philosophy: Dance moves fluctuate between simple and complex, feelings flow from joyous one performance to wretched the next. Regardless of the emotion at any moment, dancers express wild physicality and relentless commitment throughout. A Q&A session follows the Thursday-night performance.
Nov. 12-14, 8 p.m.; Sat., Nov. 14, 5 p.m.; Sun., Nov. 15, 7 p.m., 2009
