ARENA Dances: Open Eyes
A couple of weeks ago ARENA Dances hosted their annual benefit featuring dancing and modeling of designer winter and swimwear. They will presumably be fully clothed for their final spring performance, Open Eyes. The dance troupe, led by Mathew Janczewski, continues to give intensely athletic performances exploring the human condition in all of its divine, disastrous, and developing ways. The evening will open with the premiere of the troupe's female septet, Threshold, who will dance to an eclectic mix of tunes from Susuma Yokota, Massive Attack, and others. Jin-Ming Lai and Galen Treuer will dance a new duet set to the music of the Carpenters. Other dances include an excerpt from Heather Klopchins's popular waterBRIDGE, a duet between Janczewski and Amy Behm Thomson set to Yo-Yo Ma, and a dance-marathon-inspired piece. A Q&A follows the Friday performance, which is expected to be student-heavy in attendance.
April 8-10, 8 p.m.; Sat., April 10, 5 p.m.; Sun., April 11, 7 p.m., 2010
