Anger, Angst, and Art
Sure, the term "tortured artist" has grown to be an almost comical cliché, but there's no doubt that art does serve as a legitimate medium for venting anger, frustration, anxiety, and other ugly emotions. These dark, rocky impulses are explored in Altered Esthetics' latest group show, "Anger, Angst, and Art." Here, over 40 artists will express their rage and desolation through sculpture, photography, paintings, and mixed-media works. While visitors can expect plenty of tears, gnashed teeth, and bird flipping, they may also find the process to be a cathartic release. After all, there is often a rainbow after a thunderstorm. The opening reception from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, August 3, will feature spoken word, poetry, and storytelling with a healthy dash of gloom and anger, of course. There will also be an artists' discussion panel at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 18. (Greg Blair, Message From Mother Nature)
