A lot of comics who don't normally talk about politics and current events are getting caught up in this year's presidential election. Andy Kindler is no exception. "I'm obsessed with it," he confesses. "I can't believe the moves McCain is making." Best known as a correspondent for The Late Show with David Letterman, and his recurring role on Everybody Loves Raymond, Kindler returns to the area for the second time in less than two months; he covered the Republican National Convention for Letterman's show. Doing so many jokes about the campaign does have its drawbacks, though. "It has no shelf life," Kinder laughs. Still he has a lot of insight into the election. When asked if he thinks there will be some sort of an October surprise, Kindler states: "I hope not, but if there is I sure hope there is an Oktoberfest. I need German food and beer. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater!" Of course Kindler can talk about other things, such as recent trends in advertising. "They take some phrase from the '60s and use it to get you to buy something," he explains. "'It's the summer of love, the summer of life—buy our product, come on!'"
