Amy Rice: New Work
This Thursday, the work of local artist Amy Rice will be featured at a reception hosted by Chowgirls Killer Catering. All of the pieces on display are on Ampersand Archival Clayboard, which Rice was able to purchase through an MRAC Next Step grant she received in 2012. "I had been painting on boards from Home Depot for years, and wanted to upgrade my materials in order to feel more comfortable approaching higher-end galleries and museums," she says. For the show, Rice has expanded on her use of antique letters, exploring repeating patterns with a variety of methods, including incorporating written song lyrics as texture. Chowgirls Parlor was briefly home to Rosalux Gallery, and Rice believes the organization left its mark, or at least its aura. "Chowgirls have been so generous to the arts community throughout the years, donating their delicious food to openings and fundraisers. I am excited to be working with them," she says. There will be an artist's reception from 7 to 11 p.m. Thursday, February 7, and a Locavore Love Affair Valentine's Day dinner featuring a local and organic food, plus art from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, February 14 (make reservations at ChowgirlsVday2013.eventbrite.com.
