American Ballet Theatre: Giselle
The wait is over. The transformation of the historic Northrop Memorial Hall into Northrop — a center for performance, innovation, and engagement at the University of Minnesota — is complete. The festivities begin Friday evening with a gala performance of Giselle by American Ballet Theatre on the Carlson Family Stage, accompanied by live orchestra. Paloma Herrera, a principal of prodigious talent and virtuosity, dances the title role of the wronged peasant girl turned forgiving spirit. Cory Stearns, with strong cheekbones and smoldering looks, portrays her Albrecht. Northrop's new, smaller main hall is multi-tiered, uber-posh, and boasts superb sight lines and state-of-the-art acoustics and sound system, and is a transportive audience experience. A dance party with DJ-spun tunes follows the gala performance. (Photo by Gene Schiavone)
