Amber Sparks, John Jodzio, B.J. Hollars
Clear your calendars for an epic night of short stories; Magers & Quinn is hosting an evening with an impressive lineup featuring some of the most eccentric and exciting contemporary short-fiction writers out there. Here, Washington, D.C., short-fiction author Amber Sparks teams up with nonfiction/short-fiction author B.J. Hollars and popular local guru John Jodzio. The night centers on Sparks's just-published debut collection of short stories, May We Shed These Human Bodies (Curbside Splendor). With its bizarre, edgy, and whimsical style, the book brings to life 30 tales of families, ghosts, and death. In addition to the new book, Sparks is a frequent contributor to two smart, spunky literary blogs, Vouched and Big Other. She was also named champion of the D.C. Literary Death Match, and her work has appeared in an impressive variety of anthologies, blogs, and publications. Well-known local fiction writer John Jodzio is always a crowd-pleaser, especially when reading from his most recent collection, Get in If You Want to Live (Paper Darts Press). B.J. Hollars has published two nonfiction books, and has a short-story collection in the works, Sightings (Indiana University Press), due to publish next year. (John Jodzio, photo by Tiffany Bolk)
