Once there was a band named Alice Cooper that issued 1971's Love It to Death, a genuine rock 'n' roll classic. Sticking mostly to its tempestuous hard rock, the original band endured for four more albums, spitting out classics like "School's Out" and "No More Mr. Nice Guy," while lead singer Vincent Furnier assumed the Alice Cooper persona and launched onstage spectacles overflowing in blood, gore, and violence. At some point, Furnier turned born-again Christian, golfer, and Republican, but Alice Cooper kept putting out a steady stream of albums that almost always showed glimmers (and sometimes more) of the gory glory that was. The latest, Welcome 2 My Nightmare, is all over the map, from a piano ballad to twisted cabaret, hard rock, a disco parody, and even a Stones rip ("I'll Bite Your Face Off"). It has its moments, falling somewhere between derivative and nostalgiac, as should the show.
Mondays, Sundays, 7:30 p.m. Starts: July 14. Continues through July 15, 2013
