A Year in Burgundy
A tiny burgundy-colored grape is born halfway around the world, dangling off a twisting green vine. Life is drawn from the nutrients in the soil below, resulting in a succulent little bite of fruit that is then harvested, fermented, aged, bottled, proffered, and, finally, poured into stemware. There are so many stages and so much history in that one glass. Have you ever wondered what exactly goes into creating a fine bottle of world-renowned Burgundy wine? Who are the people who create these distinctive drinks? On Wednesday, Pepito's Parkway Theater in south Minneapolis is hosting a special screening of director David Kennard's 2012 documentary, A Year in Burgundy. The film is guided by Martine Saunier, a California-based wine importer, and follows seven wine-making families in Burgundy, France, over the course of a year. The story reaches back into the history of the region, and the legacy of the families who have cultivated wines there. Because you can't watch all that wine-making without sipping some, there will be a wine tasting before the screening with light appetizers provided. The evening is a collaboration among Saunier's Martine's Wines, Grandpère Wines, and South Lyndale Liquors. Proceeds will be donated to the Alliance Française in Minneapolis's North Loop.
