A Christmas Story

Since being released in 1983, A Christmas Story has become a modern-day It's a Wonderful Life—a holiday television-viewing tradition. It just doesn't seem like Christmas until you've caught the film during its 24-hour annual run on TBS. The Children's Theatre Company is hoping a trip to south Minneapolis will also be part of your Christmas Story experience this year. The new adaptation brings the tale of nine-year-old sad sack Ralphie, his crazy family, and their eternally snowy neighborhood. Philip Grecian's reimagining promises to bring everyone's favorite moments from the film (itself an adaptation of several stories by the late Jean Shepherd) to the stage, so expect a tongue stuck on a frozen flagpole, a supremely tacky lamp, mouths washed out with soap, and, of course, the unending desire for a "Red Ryder carbine-action, two-hundred-shot range model air rifle with a compass in the stock and this thing which tells time."
