A Behanding in Spokane

If forced holiday cheer is getting you down, there are alternatives, like the latest Gremlin Theatre production. A Behanding in Spokane is a regional premiere from Martin McDonagh, whose thorny, dark work can be at turns comic, horrific, or both at the same time. The Tony Award-winning creator of The Pillowman and The Beauty Queen of Leenane, among many others, offers us the tale of Carmichael, who has been in search of his missing hand for more than 20 years. The search seems to have come to an end — but who will survive the reunion? The play, which debuted on Broadway in 2010, marked the first time the Irish playwright had set one of his stories in America. The local production is directed by Matt Sciple, and features the talents of Sara Marsh, Brian J. Evans, Luverne Seifert, and David Tufford as Carmichael.
Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m.; Mondays, 8 p.m. Starts: Nov. 30. Continues through Dec. 16, 2012
