9th Annual Schwan Cup Hockey Tournament
No matter where you are in the metro between December 28 and January 1, you won't be far from competitive youth hockey. The Schwan Cup will have games playing on the Super Rink at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Ridder Arena on the University of Minnesota campus, Brooklyn Park Activity Center, Champlin Ice Forum, Roseville Skating Center, and, ultimately, the Xcel Energy Center. During the next five days, 64 varsity high school teams, 40 junior varsity, and 40 youth teams will duke it out to determine which boys high school teams get to play on the Wild's ice on New Year's Day, and which girls teams meet up at the Ridder Arena, home of the women Gophers. The boys bracket will feature perennial high school powerhouses Edina, St. Thomas Academy, and Holy Angels, while top girls teams include Breck and Red Wing. The schedule can get pretty confusing, so check out all the game listings, tickets, locations, and times at www.nscsports.org/sports/hockey/tourneys/schwan_cup/sched_results.htm.
