'80s Night

The '80s were a perplexing time of conservatism and hedonism. It was an era where the shoulder pads and business suits were as excessive and common as the neon colors, ugly sweaters, and acid-washed jeans. This Thursday, the Walker Art Center invites guests to remember the '80s (or experience the weirdness for the first time) in celebration of the ongoing exhibition "This Will Have Been: Art, Love & Politics in the 1980s." Big hair and other looks from the time are encouraged, though the evening will explore the sound and psyche of the decade as well. Author Neal Cuthbert, art historian Joanna Inglot, artist Catherine Jordan, musician/author Jim Walsh, and Patrick Scully of Patrick's Cabaret will bring up hot topics from days of yore at the '80s-themed Conversationalist's Café. There will be a tour of the exhibition as well, and Walsh will take folks back to the sounds of the era with a special Mad Ripple Hootenanny.
Thu., Aug. 9, 6-10 p.m., 2012
