4 x 4 = 100 Dancing Outside
Minneapolis choreographer Laurie Van Wieren is consistently innovative in her methods of gathering artists together to explore space, idea, impulse, movement, and execution. For this brief yet memorable performance, she's invited 100 local choreographers to each occupy a four- by-four-foot square within a 40-by-40-foot grid, and move or perform in any way they desire for 30 minutes. They just can't interact with one another or disturb another artist in their square. Part survey of the Twin Cities dance community, part conceptual artwork, the piece will be an eye-opener for everyone — especially passersby.
