30 Days of Biking Kickoff Ride
Now in its fifth year, 30 Days of Biking kicks off this weekend with a few fun events around town. The happening encourages cyclists — be they new riders, casual bikers, competitive athletes, or regular commuters — to commit to biking every day for a month, and then share their experiences online. The challenge is not just for locals; folks from around the world, including Spain, Germany, and Canada, have participated. This year, the organization is teaming up with Bikes 4 Kidz, and hopes to give away 300 bikes to children whose families are unable to afford a bicycle. For every 30 people who sign up, a kid will get a bike. Happenings this week include an ice-cream social at Freewheel Midtown Bike Center (2834 10th Ave. S., Minneapolis) from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, and on Sunday people can meet at Gold Medal park for a casual ride to Red Stag Supperclub. Other upcoming events include a family-friendly tour in south Minneapolis, a slow-paced brewery crawl, and an art show and benefit party hosted by Adam Turman at the always fab Chowgirls Catering.
