2010: The Winners and the Losers. Mostly the Losers
>"Every time I come back here there's a recount," cracks erstwhile Minnesotan Lizz Winstead. The co-creator and former head writer and correspondent of The Daily Show and co-founder of Air America is back in town for a stint, working on a book of politically minded personal essays. While the incredibly prolific writer and humorist is home, she's throwing a New Year's Eve party for comedy fans and policy wonks, a look back at the previous 364 days she's calling 2010: The Winners and the Losers. Mostly the Losers. "This year was the craziest year in politics since I've been doing standup, bar none," Winstead says. "It's insane. I've got to sum up the whole year in 75 minutes, and I'm not kidding you, I have nine hours of material to pare down. You forget 'You lie!' happened this year, Haiti happened this year, Ted Kennedy lost his seat to a Republican this year. I can't lose, I just have to figure out out of the 20 minutes I've written on Christine O'Donnell, what are the three gems I want to put in the show." Following the late show, Winstead will lead partiers next door to Pepitos to count down to 2011 while John Eller and his band lead karaoke.
