2010 Flint Hills International Children's Festival

The sprawling festival dedicated to audiences young and old alike is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a variety of performance and interactive events taking place this weekend inside the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts as well as in Rice Park, Landmark Plaza, and Hamm Plaza in downtown St. Paul. The jam-packed schedule includes dozens of artists from around the world and many notable events, including a concert by Kenya's Shangilia Youth Choir under the direction of J.D. Steele (and joined by the newly formed MacPhail Community Youth Choir), Nova Scotia's Mermaid Theatre's popular renditions of the classic tales Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny, and puppetry from Peru's Hugo and Ines, who performed at the first festival a decade ago. Local artists include CAAM, Mariachi Estrella, Katha Dance Theatre, Cyril Paul, and the Calypso Monarchs, plus many, many more. Other events include Xcel Energy's Butterfly Garden, art-making activity tents, street food, and this year's newest display, Friendship Forest, a lush urban garden created in collaboration with Blooming St. Paul.
