2009 NCAA Men's Basketball First/Second Round

Hoops fans will be treated to the extremes of college basketball history this weekend at the Dome. The regional NCAA men’s basketball tournament games include perennial powerhouse schools, startups, and mid-level challengers. In perhaps the most lopsided contest, in terms of school basketball history ever played in the annual tourney, will take place Thursday at 11:30 a.m. That’s when the reigning national champions Kansas Jayhawks, a program with 13 trips to the Final Four and three national titles to its credit, take on the North Dakota State Bison who are in their first year of Division-I eligibility. Imagine the New York Yankees facing a team of late-season minor league call-ups in the playoffs. Following that game, six-seed West Virginia tip off against 11-seed Dayton, and later 7-seed Boston College play ten-seed Southern Cal, and Big Ten champions, two-seed Michigan State, play teeny-tiny 15-seed Robert Morris out of Pennsylvania who are making their first bracket appearance since 1992. The winners of the Thursday games play each other on Saturday.
Fri., March 20, 11:30 a.m. & 6:20 p.m.; Sun., March 22, noon, 2009
