Best Theater Minneapolis 2014 - Children's Theatre Company
Since the 1960s, the Children's Theatre Company has built its reputation on a winning formula: Make high-quality entertainment that can be enjoyed by the youngest and the oldest theatergoers alike. The delights came fast and furious through the past year, as the company finally shook itself completely free of a financial crisis from a few years back to produce a brilliant set of shows that featured the tremendous talents of the resident company and allowed guest artists the opportunity to make great theater. This ranged from an imagination-based version of Pinocchio — in which a small cast used everyday objects to bring the magic of the story to life — to the wild style of Alice in Wonderland and the gorgeous, vibrant, and funny Cinderella. For younger audiences, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie won plenty of accolades — and a pair of Ivey Awards for the work done by director Peter Brosius and actor Dean Holt. And then there was Charlotte's Web, which proved that a story about life and death can be right for any age, especially when it is crafted with such care.
